JULY 4TH FREEDOMFEST RETURNS TO NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA’S DELAWARE RIVER WATERFRONT, CELEBRATING AMERICA’S 250th BIRTHDAY IN GRAND FASHION
The event features live music, dozens of vendors, a beer garden, a 40-foot Ferris wheel, and a spectacular fireworks finale.
PHILADELPHIA, PA | June 12, 2026 – Philadelphia-based nonprofit One River Alliance (ORA) and long-standing event producer State Street Events proudly announce the full details for the highly anticipated July 4th FreedomFest Fireworks Festival. First launched in 2019, FreedomFest has grown into a signature Independence Day celebration in Northeast Philadelphia, offering families and visitors a festive and accessible way to commemorate the Fourth of July along the scenic Delaware River. Set against one of the nation’s most storied waterfronts, FreedomFest embodies the region’s deep sense of community, celebration, and civic pride.
The festival returns on Saturday, July 4, at Pleasant Hill Park (Delaware River & Linden Ave). Festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. and culminate in a stunning 9:00 p.m. fireworks display by Pyrotecnico, launched from a barge in the center of the Delaware River. This free, family-friendly event features a packed lineup of live music, dozens of local food trucks, artisan vendors, and engaging activities for all ages.
Opening ceremonies begin at 5:00 p.m. with a ceremonial flag-raising in partnership with William D Oxley American Legion Post 133 at the park’s newly installed flagpole, made possible through the support of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation. As FreedomFest joins communities across the nation in celebrating America’s 250th birthday, the ceremony will serve as a patriotic tribute to the nation’s history and enduring spirit. The opening ceremonies will also include a performance of the National Anthem, remarks from local elected officials, and the presentation of the inaugural Alliance Award by One River Alliance.
This year’s inaugural Alliance Award will be presented to Thomas Forkin in recognition of his years of dedication and service to FreedomFest and the Delaware River waterfront community. Forkin has been instrumental in bringing together the partners, organizations, agencies, sponsors, and volunteers needed to transform FreedomFest from an ambitious vision into one of Philadelphia’s premier Independence Day celebrations. The award honors his leadership, commitment, and ability to unite people around a shared purpose for the benefit of the community.
“Tom’s commitment to collaboration helped transform a bold concept into a lasting tradition,” said Dana Russikoff, Founder and Executive Director of One River Alliance. “From the earliest planning conversations, he has brought together the people, organizations, and resources needed to make FreedomFest possible. His work exemplifies the spirit of alliance, partnership, and community that defines both this event and our organization.”
Following the opening ceremonies, FreedomFest’s main stage will come alive with an electrifying performance by crowd favorites Philly Heart & Soul. The much-loved beer garden also returns, showcasing libations from local makers including Sacred Heart Brewing Company, City Distilling, and Hillbilly Hooch. Throughout the evening, the beer garden will feature rotating live performances by local artists Ryan Biedermann, Ray Palmer, and The Kramer Brothers.
Festivalgoers can experience a thrilling 40-foot Ferris wheel, offering breathtaking views of the riverfront and a new vantage point for the evening’s fireworks.
“What started as a bold ‘what if’ has now become the second-largest July 4th event in Philadelphia,” said Dana Russikoff, Founder and Executive Director of One River Alliance. “Our goal was to create a premier Independence Day celebration in Northeast Philly for residents who might not be able to make it downtown. This year, we’re thrilled to be celebrating America’s 250th birthday by bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds who value celebrating their own community. We are honored to offer this free, family-friendly festival that captures the heart of summer and the spirit of independence, and we could not do it without the unwavering support of the 8th Police District, Philadelphia Parks & Rec, Councilman Mike Driscoll, and our generous sponsors.”
